Hale Kilinahe: The Journal

DECEMBER 1, 1997

Just a relaxing day off. More and more, I treasure my days off. When I'm in the swing of things, I don't mind working at all; in fact, I briefly contemplated going in on Thanksgiving. By the end of the week, though, I count the hours until I can clock out and get the hell out of there. The most frustrating thing is not really knowing exactly what my job is.

{oooh. I'm watching TNN and Toby Keith is on. Now there's a hunk}

The whole thing last week is that Mike, one of the three of us in video, went on vacation, at the most inopportune moment possible, may I add. Am I thinking too much about work? Feh. I'd love to stay home and fold and re-fold all the precious new baby clothes that I bought. Come to think of it, it really bothers me. I have to work up until I pop when I'd really like to just sit with my feet up.

Our second Lamaze class was tonight. Last week, one of the ladies was with her mom, and I wondered if there was a daddy involved and where he was. He showed up tonight, and he was so funny! Part of the class is learning comfortable positions for labor and techniques to help cope with pain. The favorite position for ladies suffering from back labor is on her knees, with her husband (sorry, "labor partner") behind her, applying pressure to take the weight off her hips. It's a, shall we say, suggestive position and the husband snickered, "This is what got us into this mess in the first place". I blushed appropriately.

I have really bad heartburn. Just thought I would share.

My little brother, Mike, arrived at my folks' tonight. He's in the Navy. He's been in Italy for the past year. I can't wait to talk to him. He's a year and a half younger than me and we fought so much when we were kids, but now that we're grown up, I really appreciate him. My parents, too. Every kid thinks his parents are hopelessly unhip at best and tyrannical at worst, but I love my folks so much. They've flown me back home whenever I've gotten homesick, which is at least every year.
