I keep coming back to Ryan Gosling's big, sad eyes.

Anyone who knows me knows about my abject terror of illness.

More specifically, my kids' illness. I panic at the first sign of a sniffle. And it's worse now because Alex is still an infant and very vulnerable and he has two siblings from whom to catch all kinds of nasty things. Me? If I get the measles, fine. But if my kids are sick, I am a basket case.

My kids are sick.

In fact, the whole block is sick. There are a grand total of nine kids on the block; officially, four of them have come down with this whatever-it-is. I think it's the flu; Ryan insists it's two different things, but it sucks. One kid, who lives two doors down, is diabetic; I fear for him. Poor Zac is so out of it. He's a nonstop ball of energy when he's healthy. But now? He's lying on the floor, where he's been for three hours.

We see the doctor in the morning. I sincerely hope that when I get there, I have nothing to say to the doctor.

on the tube: Dog the Bounty Hunter

Election year is here. This particular election year has been ugly. I read an article in the paper today about people getting into fistfights and candidates' headquarters getting trashed.

I'm so tired of hearing about it. Even just the campaign ads are wearing me down. I either get depressed or just incredibly angry. I enjoy making fun of Republicans, but now, it doesn't feel like it used to. It feels...dark. It feels like no matter who wins this thing, it's going to suck, because of 2000, and because of 9/11, and because everyone just seems to hate each other so much. I'm voting for Kerry, but I don't feel good about it. And please don't get me started on Bush.

I am so addicted to Lost.

(turn down your speakers before you click that link, by the way)

I haven't been this glued to the tube since Twin Peaks. The characters are just so incredibly great.
