The nausea is gone.

The heartburn is here.

In fact, I can't stop eating. I just ate half a pound of swiss cheese. That's not going to help the burn, is it? Does dairy help heartburn or make it worse? Beth? Anyone? Bueller?

The only thing that helps heartburn is Zantac 75 or Pepcid AC. I resorted to daily drugs, with actually little shame. I've heard that dairy actually is supposed to help. But I couldn't even drink water without feeling the burn!

That sucks. Careful about what you take, though- check here: http://www.rxlist.com/ first. Zantac and Tagamet are both in the iffy category durning pregnancy, and if you do take them, make sure you're also getting calcium and folic acid supplements because they interfere with nutrient absorption. Foods to avoid are chocolate, tomatoes, citrus, vinegar salad dressings, pepper and spices. Also anything with high fat content, so in that case some dairy might not be good (ie high fat cheese, ice cream). With my ulcer, that meant eating mostly mashed potatoes, bland chicken, and rice. Hope you feel better!

Thanks, guys. I go through Tums like candy usually, since they're high in calcium, but it's starting really early this time. At least I'm not queasy anymore. I'll take a year of heartburn over a month of queasy any day.

Enjoy the Tums while they work. I highly recommend the Safeway Assorted Fruit box in the 96 count. But when your stomach officially moves into your chest, the Zantac 75 over the counter (also available in generic at Safeway) has been deemed A-Okay by my new OB and midwife. Heartburn has been my daily battle for the past 6 months. I hate to sound like a pessimist, but nothing works except either not eating or taking drugs. The Tums will help for now, but I'd ask your doctor about other options if it gets really bad. (i.e. Reflux keeping you up all night) We need a happy, well rested Jen. Thinking about you, and DYING to know if it's a boy or girl!
