Hale Kilinahe: The Journal

JANUARY 12, 1998

So the AC quit on Monday night. Last night, there was a pipe bomb under a car in the parking lot. The cops weren't letting anybody in or out, so we had exactly five people wandering in and out for an hour. We watched "Scream" with the volume up full blast and having a good ol' time until the bomb squad came and we had to go back to work. We kept getting calls from panicky people who couldn't get their videos back in time.

It's only in the last few days of a job that one realizes that he'll miss it in a masochistic sort of way. I seriously hope they fix the AC soon, though, because it is so hard to work in there. Now that I'm down to the last few, I'm trying to find small things that I can associate with it. Now matter how I complained, it still wasn't horrible, except for the dismal pay.

I'm hoarding movies from work. We'll never be able to go out again, so I'm making fun wherever I can grab it. We watched something called "Schizopolis" last night. It made me realize that yes, I am dumb. I can't appreciate anything whose purpose or meaning isn't immediately clear. It frustrates me. It didn't have a plot, per se, but it made fun of marriage and cults; at least that was obvious. No movie stars were in it and there were no credits; it was rather like an extended and somewhat more thoughtful episode of Monty Python, but not British. I quite liked it, but like I said, it frustrated me.

I'm going to miss these days with Ryan. Just these carefree, let's go-out days just enjoying each other's company. It's my goal to maintain our level of communication and togetherness, including nights out once in a while, but I don't know how easy that'll be.
