I've been in a really bad mood for three months.

To really explain why would be restating what has been said a zillion times in a gazillion other journals, so I'll just ask: when did everybody in this country become a redneck? Is it something in the water? Because in my whole life, I've never seen mass stupidity on this level. It feels like to have reservations and concerns about certain issues and stating them out loud is akin to telling people that you kick puppies for a living.

And the hypocrisy! People couldn't wait to get rid of Clinton because he got a blow job (the horror!) and we have a certifiable nutcase in there now and people are acting like he's the Pope. What the hell?

That's all I'll say about that.

on the table: chicken eggplant, seasoned with cumin and turmeric, from a huli-huli chicken donated by my mother-in-law

Speaking of the Pope, I didn't do so well this Lent. I still don't have this God thing figured out yet, obviously, despite dragging my husband to have both kids baptized. I didn't even make it to church once, much less go meat-free on Fridays. I don't know what it is about me that just can't wrap my mind around a simple concept like faith. You're supposed to just go to church, bring your canned goods, say your rosaries, and maybe volunteer to be an usher now and then, but I've never done it.

The 'rents arrive tomorrow. When they leave, I might take the kids and go with them. I've been wanting to go and visit them since last year, but there's not much time left; Katie starts kindergarten in August and then the airlines will charge me for Zac shortly after that, so I have to go soon. I'm hoping I can just catch the plane back with my mom and stay for a few weeks. I'd like them to get to know Zac a little better and Katie is just beside herself with excitement. The weather will still be nice there and I'd love to take Katie to Sea World.

Denial has worked for me. That and gently suggesting to those who haven't been thoroughly brainwashed that perhaps NPR and Salon.com might be worth more attention than Fox News.

Yes, there are plenty of rednecks, but I think there are more people too lazy to form an opinion so they borrow the ones they hear on TV. All the polls are skewed because they only call the rednecks and their sisters-wives I mean- and, like in Florida, throw out every thrid vote for democracy. Speaking of democracy, am I the only one who thinks it's a joke that we're trying to introduce democracy to Iraq?

As for religion, I think the Pope's a bit too far gone to notice your lapses, and God probably has an idea of what it's like to raise a kid (if not two) so I wouldn't worry about Him either.

Faith? Simple? Ha.
