I keep coming back to Ryan Gosling's big, sad eyes.

I've just gone another, what, three months between entries again? Sorry. Too much to say, I guess, but not enough to say.

I got called "boring" in another blog (journal? whatever.). My kids got sick. Katie finished preschool and is starting kindergarten this very week. Assorted other excuses apply as well. Mainly, I find myself generally pissed off at people more frequently than before and don't like ranting in public.

reading: White Teeth by Zadie Smith

So, yeah, I've been getting acquainted with the state's public school system. Thank god I have a car, or I'd die. It's been hot. Ocala, Florida hot. And Katie's school is up a steep hill--oh, wait. Didn't tell you. Finally got a Hawai'i driver's license and Ryan bought me a car--and I'm not handling this whole thing too well. I wasn't aware, for instance, that you can't park your car and walk your kid to her class and kiss her goodbye. Or, you can, but it's not easy. You can do it the first few days, but after that, you're expected to just hand the kid off like a bunch of library books. Without getting all maudlin, and you know, boring on you, I didn't think she'd be just snatched away from me this way.

relishing: the spectacular failure of Gigli and Strippergate

This summer has been like Katie's first summer vacation, so we've been making the most of it. We went to the Obon service this year and I bought both kids hopi coats. It was really special; Katie got so into it. And we reached a milestone she didn't even notice--it's the last damn time we ride the bus ever again. They want to raise the fare AGAIN, right after they raised it in July AT THE SAME TIME they cut back the schedule.

What else?

  • got TiVo. Promptly lost the remote. Fell in love with Sports Night.
  • Dad had emergency surgery. He's been in a lot of pain but is getting better. I am really glad we went out there when we did.
  • Took the kids to see Finding Nemo. Freaked the Kster out pretty bad. Whenever we drive by the Ward theaters, I think she actually shudders.

Crap. The baby woke up.

Comments

Eight in 10 Kindergarten teachers are MEAN. I hope hope hope that Katie's part of the _fortunate_ 20 percent. It would break your heart to know how the other 80 are treated once the last parent has closed the door behind them. :(
